Enstone Horticultural Society

The Enstone Horticultural Society is a thriving local organisation whose purpose is to bring together those with an interest in gardening and to organise local events, including horticultural and flower shows.

Mr Fothergills offers up to 60% discount on seeds, depending on the quantity ordered by the society. Unfortunately, no discounts are offered this year on other items such as potatoes, shallots, garlic or onion sets. These can be ordered directly online and if you sign up to Fothergill’s online mailing list, they offer some money-saving discounts.

The seed catalogues have arrived and are being dispatched to members who have previously ordered seeds. For any members who have not ordered before, extra catalogues are available from Debbie Payne between 5-7pm Wednesdays to Fridays at 2, Keens Close, Chapel Lane, Enstone. (01608 678782) Non-members can also order seeds but a membership fee will be added to the bill. Membership also entitles you to a 10% discount at local garden centres.

Seeds are usually distributed at our AGM in January but if Covid restrictions still apply, they will be distributed by other means.

If you wish to order seeds please complete the order as instructed on the order form, adding up the total and return to Debbie by Friday November 6th at the latest.

If anyone wishes to order summer-flowering bulbs, Debbie Payne also has Peter Nyssen catalogues. As with the seeds, the bigger the order, the bigger the discount.

Any completed orders need to be returned to Debbie at the above address by Friday November 6th at the latest

Programme for 2020

Unfortunately, due to Covid, we have had to cancel summer events such as open gardens, garden visits and the horticultural show. However, we will be distributing seed catalogues in early October so that you can purchase seeds at up to 60% discount. As well as a seed catalogue there will be a bulb catalogue from Peter Nyssen. Non-members can also apply for a catalogue and order seeds, with the membership fee to be added on at seed collection time. Please contact HelenPrower@gmail.com

One event which did continue was the garden competition for the best perennial display. Members submitted up to three photographs which were judged by a panel in a Zoom meeting. We had a good selection of photos of lovely displays but the winner was judged to be Veronica Parsons who has been awarded the Nockels cup. Many thanks to all those who took part.

Annual individual membership is £6.00. (Couples £10.00). Subscriptions become due on 1 January each year.

As well as being able to attend the society’s events, you will also benefit from discounts of typically 10% at local garden centres, including Applegarth in Chipping Norton, Burford Garden Centre and Hilltop Garden Centre in Ramsden.

Membership of the society will also bring you a substantial discount off the cost of ordering flower and vegetable seeds. Every year the society places an order with a well known seed merchant, gaining discounts for members of up to 50% off the normal prices.
