Enstone History Society: 2017 Programme:

Here are some notes on forthcoming events:

St Kenelm's Building Work
  1. St Kenelm’s Feast. Monday July 17th at 6pm in St Kenelm’s Church Looking forward to seeing you all for the picnic in the church. I attach a photo Nigel Hammett took that shows the amount of building work going on and that our table space will be somewhat restricted. Also with the work in progress it is not suitable to have candles on the tables but Nigel is providing some electric candle lighting and we can use the builder’s lighting if we wish. I quote Nigel 'St Kenelm’s church is a building site at the moment with works taking place in most areas. This should make it interesting for members, especially as we have discovered a number of items of antiquity during the exploratory works.’. I am hoping Nigel will be able to take members on a guided tour around the accessible parts of the church after the picnic. There is no water as yet in the church but Brian is setting up a bar and please bring any teas, coffees or drinks you wish.
  2. Guided walk round Churchill and visit to Heritage Centre , Wednesday July 26 starting at 2pm. Please see last newsletter for full details. So far there have been no takers for this tour which will give members an opportunity to follow in the early footsteps of William Smith about whom we had a talk earlier in the year. If no one does wish to gpo we will have to cancel the event which is a pity since the Churchill history people have been so welcoming. Please contact Anne Francis as soon as you can if you would like to attend this tour.
  3. Church tour with Nicola Coldstream ,Thursday August 3. Following last year’s very successful tour, Nicola will be guiding members to two churches: Northleigh and Combe during the afternoon. She suggests meeting at 2.30pm in Northleigh church and parking in the car park opposite. She has arranaged the visit to Combe with the vicar who may well come along at 3.30pm. More details will be in the August newsletter but as this will only be sent out a few days before the event, can members please sign up with Anne Francis as soon as possible and arrange car sharing where possible.

Here is the programme of events for the coming year. Times unless stated otherwise are 7 for 7.30pm. Venues and further details will be given in appropriate newsletters.

Enstone Annual Show August 27 2016

We will be attending the show again this year and hope to see you all there. The society had a very successful afternoon last year, explaining to visitors what we do and offering refreshments. We were positioned centrally by the dog show and in full view of the Morris men. Stephen Wass provided a thought provoking display of his work on his excavation of the Enstone Marvels, pictured is Pam Foxall helping a visitor.
